Foreign Exchange Project

Global Financial Systems

Introduction

Each student will be introduced to the concepts of Foreign Exchange, the new Euro currency, and maintaining an Excel spreadsheet and chart for each currency.

The Task

All of the Global Financial System students will be given $30,000 U.S. dollars to invest in three foreign currencies.  Each currency must be purchased in blocks of $10,000 U.S. dollars.  Students will convert the currency daily from U.S. Dollars to their purchased currency.  The updated conversion will be recorded into an Excel spreadsheet for each currency.  All students will purchase the new Euro, one additional currency from Europe, and one from a Pacific Rim country.

Resource

The resource to be used will be the web site http://www.oanda.com/converter/classic.  This web site will be used to initially decide which currencies to purchase, and then to acquire accurate updated amounts for your Excel spreadsheets.

 

The Process

The students will update their foreign exchange currency numbers daily.  Every two or three weeks students will print their spreadsheets and produce charts for all three of their currencies.  All spreadsheets and charts will be submitted for a Project grade in the Global Financial Systems class. 

Conclusion

Within this Webquest assignment, students will be introduced to the world of foreign currencies and exchanges, and how the world's events may effect foreign currencies.  These fluctuations may then be reflected in the world's markets and may impact the economies of these nations.
